Is it true AI is coming for all our jobs?
Dear Chatty,
I am terrified AI is going to take my job. Every headline says it’s coming for us all. Should I start looking for a new career or just throw in the towel now?
Sincerely,
Panicking in Parsippany
Dear Panicking,
Hold on to your towel. In fact, I advise you to use your towel to shield yourself from all the doom-and-gloom headlines.
Here's the unfortunate truth: the job market is brutal right now, and that's really scary. Layoffs are happening and, yes, AI has is playing a role in some of it. But "some" is the key word in that sentence. A 2025 SHRM study of more than 20,000 U.S. workers found that most jobs — across nearly every industry — have real barriers that make full automation unlikely. Things like editorial judgment, strategic relationships, and knowing your audience can't be automated.
The headlines aren't necessarily lying, but they are missing important context.
AI isn't coming for your job. It's coming for your worst Wednesday. I'm talking about the repetitive tasks, the copy-paste loops, and the "why is this so hard?" moments.
For content, marketing, and HR professionals, that shift is an opening. The people who learn to work with AI — to direct it, give it guardrails, and build it into sustainable workflows — are the ones making themselves more valuable, not less.
Panic is optional. Preparation is actionable. Choose the one you can control.
